We will pick you up from your accommodation, Surf Camp or Hotel and take you to the best Surf spots that Madeira has to offer to start your Surf Lessons! Surf spots are carefully chosen according to the waves and weather forecast, and your Surfing level.

Your surf lesson starts after a brief briefing, warm-up and practice on the sand, then let's go surfing. Yes, you are going to ride a wave! You will achieve something in two hours, which it took me six months to learn alone with friends, over 30 years ago without a coach ...

After class we will relax a bit and recharge in one of the local cafes or restaurants before we return to your accommodation or Surf Camp to rest and prepare for the next Surf session.

Our Mission

AroundFreedom is a concept which we want to transmit to our guests; the background being the paradisiacal island of Madeira:

Aroundfreedom Surf school is specialized in sea and mountain activities. 

The green/blue concept is present in all our activities. Our aim is to ensure that all moments are intensely lived by our guests, and that they feel the freedom that our activities and unique experiences are able to grant them.

Exploiting the natural resources that the Island of Madeira has to offer you, enjoying the sea with its blue greenish, pleasant mild waters, through the SUP tours on the seashore, or learning how to surf on its wonderful volcanic sand beaches on the northeastern part of the island, or into the mountains dazzled by the landscapes, breathing the pure fresh air, discovering the fresh water springs, the waterfalls cutting into the deep canyons most of the times ending in exuberant lagoons of crystalline waters with stunning blues and greens and a unique world renowned forest, the “Laurissilva of the Island of Madeira”.  Is there any better feeling than that to feel the freedom of when one is in contact with nature in its purest form?

Roberto Filipe

(Manager of AroundFreedom - Surf Coach / SUP and Mountain Guide)

A descendant of Madeirenses, born in Lisbon on June 23, 1970, where he lived until 1999. Passionate about the sea and the mountains. started surfing in 1984. When he arrived in Madeira in August 1999, he started working in adventure tourism, to one of the best companies and active tourism teams at the time.

As a coach and judge of surfing, he has been linked to the growth of national surfing, having been a founding partner of ASCC - Surf Association of Costa da Caparica, and regional, in the last decade, being responsible for the first course of judges in the region.

Rescuer, Life-gard and Personal Water Craft Operator, another of his great passions. In 2012 he takes the mountain guide course of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, at the same time decides to make his long-standing project a reality creating Aroundfreedom. Since then, he teaches surf lessons / experiences, SUP tours along the coast of Madeira Island and guides expeditions along the mountain tracks and paths that were once used to cross the island from north to south, or for shepherding and “Levadas” throughout the island .
