South East Asia’s Top Junior Surfers Will Train For GromSearch National Final In Uluwatu, Bali

18 of South East Asia's best junior surfers will compete in the most important contest of their young surfing careers this weekend, October 28 & 29..

...when the Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals storms the world-famous waves at Uluwatu on the island of Bali.

The 2017 GromSearch National Finalists, all under 16 years of age, will be competing for the title of “South East Asia’s Top Grom,” as well as a ticket to represent Asia at the Rip Curl International GromSearch, where the top performing under-16 surfers from around the globe will face off.

The last International GromSearch was hosted by 2014 WSL World Champion Gabriel Medina at his home break of Maresias, Brazil, where competitors were invited to train at the newly unveiled Gabriel Medina Institute of Surf. The location of the next International GromSearch remains secret, but you can be sure it will be held at a special wave.
The 2017 male and female GromSearch National Champions will join the elite company of past GromSearch National Champions, including current WQS threats Oney Anwar and last year’s champion, Rio Waida.

The GromSearch National Finalists are beyond excited for the opportunity to compete at empty, crowd-controlled Uluwatu, one of the best waves on the planet. The surf forecast is calling for a solid dose of south swell to hit the fabled reef at Uluwatu for the GromSearch National Finals on Saturday and Sunday.

To prepare for this weekend’s National Final, a select group of GromSearch National Finalists will train with internationally acclaimed surf coach Robbie Sherwell from Australia, a former WCT Top 10 surfer who has coached some of Australia’s best pro juniors, including Kelly Norris, Jack Duggan, Wade Goodall and Mitch Coleborn.

During the intensive three-day GromSearch National Training Camp (October 25-27), campers will live and train at the Rip Curl Team House in Uluwatu. Under Sherwell’s expert eye and tutelage, surfers will study technique and review video footage of their surf sessions each day. The Campers will also trained by other coaches from Balawista for CPR Training, ASC Head Judge for heat strategy and judging rules and regulations, Dive Coach from Sanur Free Dive Course for free dive instruction on, and training and diet from Elite Surf Trainer.
