Quiksilver Canggu Challenge Eyes Full Heat Draws

Great Swell Forecast for June 20th Start.

Registration has now been closed for the ASC-ISC sanctioned Quiksilver Canggu Challenge that will run at Bali’s famed Canggu Beach from June 20-21, with 112 contestants signed up in the four divisions of competition: Open Men’s, Open Women’s, Junior Boys and Junior Girls.

Swell is forecast to be a solid 2-meter at a 15 second period to start Saturday’s action, which has Contest Director and ASC President Tipi Jabrik smiling.  “With this swell that’s being predicted, we’re sure to get some great waves that will give all the surfers a chance to show their best,” says Jabrik.  “We’re sure to see some really high performance surfing that will make for a fun and entertaining event.  With guys like Lempog (Komang Angga Bayu) fresh off his stellar performance at the Komune Keramas event, and the Philippines top surfer Piso Alcala coming off a win a Cloud 9, taking on the rest of Asia’s top surfers, we’ll have plenty of explosive action here at a Canggu,” he added.

The top 3 ranked ASC Men’s Open surfers are Komang Angga Bayu from Keramas (Bali), Made Darmayasa from Legian (Bali), and Piso Alcala from Siargao Island (Philippines) going into this event.

The Junior Boys Division has a full contingent of 32 groms waiting for their chance to rack up points and impress the judges, while both the Women’s Division and the Junior Girls Divisions have filled up with some 16 competitors.

Asia’s top women competitors are also standing by including Rina Kitazawa from Japan, Bonne Geo from Indonesia, and Nilbie Blancada from the Philippines.

Both ASC and ISC points will be given in this event, the first Quiksilver event ever to be held in Canggu.  Quiksilver has just opened a new Quiksilver Boardriders Café at Echo Beach, which will be the site of the awards ceremony and after party on Sunday to close out the event.

The tide is low in the early morning at approximately 6 am and rising to a mid day high tide, so the competition is scheduled to start promptly at 7 am and will run until late afternoon each day.

All competitors are requested to be at the beach by 6:00 am to ensure an on-time 7 am start on Saturday morning 20 June.
